KATY MCINTYRE BROWN
“I truly believe that we all need nature in our homes and in our lives, and that botanical art has power.
"My aim is to produce art that can do good, art that can be used and art that changes a space for the better.”
Katy McIntyre Brown is an artist and textile designer with a particular interest in the therapeutic power of nature. Self-taught, Katy grew up in London and Somerset then, when married with a young family, moved to Africa and spent a decade in Kenya painting large landscapes and delicate oil paintings of African birds and fauna. Katy held regular solo and joint exhibitions in the house she built on the outskirts of Nairobi. She returned with her family to the English countryside in 2014 to take a Masters Degree in textile design and has since been researching the English Arts and Crafts movement of William Morris and the Bloomsbury Group.
Katy works from her home studio on Lockerley Green, in the Test Valley, and is particularly interested in bringing good design and paintings of nature into spaces that wouldn’t otherwise benefit from natural beauty, such as hospital Intensive Care Units and care homes. She paints her paintings, wall and textile designs in acrylics and oils, on canvas, board, and wallpaper. Her large scale botanical wall designs can be found in Salisbury, Bath, and Southampton Hospitals and at Horatio’s Garden Spinal Unit Charity.
Katy also teaches and tutors, and for the last few years has visited Horatio’s Garden, garden charity, Salisbury, as artist in residence.
Katy hopes to have her studio open over the Open Studios bank holiday, from Friday, 10am to 4pm, and will be showing paintings, fabrics and lampshades. For further details, please contact Katy on: 07713 979809 or using email: firstname.lastname@example.org
