JONATHAN THOMPSON
From Petersfield drive up Bell Hill and turn right into Honeycritch lane just before the Trooper Inn. From Alton turn left just after the Trooper Inn.
I'm currently on a journey depicting the 'Solent Way' from Emsworth to Southampton using the medium of Multi Plate Sugar-lift Etching. The image originates as a watercolour carried out on location which I use to make a reverse image on three copper plates that will subsequently be etched and printed together to make the final image. The medium of etching takes the original watercolour into a more bold and graphic image that accentuates the calligraphic representation of the landscape. The copper plates are used to make a limited edition of 20 prints only, each one being slightly unique from the other.
My influences range from British Visionary artists such as Turner, Samuel Palmer & John Piper to European artists such as Raoul Duffy & Van Gough. Since graduating from Camberwell School of Art & Crafts in Fine Art Painting & Printmaking in 1986, Etching has been my chosen medium to extend my drawing and creative practice.
